NEO Team Update 10-16-17
Celebrate Clergy Appreciation Month
Throughout the month of October, churches around the world will show their appreciation for clergy and pastoral staff members in a variety of ways. These men and women can be celebrated through personal notes or gifts, by groups like a Sunday school class, or in larger settings with the entire congregation.
Here are some ideas:
Share a video explaining what you appreciate about your pastor using #lovemynazpastor.
Organize a prayer calendar so each pastor is prayed for every day of the month.
Create a slideshow presentation of pastors in action during the past year. Set it to music and play it as a pre-service video.
Give clergy families a night out to a local restaurant or gift certificate for an overnight get-away.
Invite children to create artwork for the pastors.
Choose a day and have people text pastors hourly with a heartfelt message explaining how the pastors have positively impacted members.
Give each Sunday in October a special emphasis related to something appreciated about each of your congregation’s pastoral leaders (personality qualities, gifting, family, etc.) with a special tribute, recollection, etc.
Consider giving a gift that relates to the emphasis.
Allow members of the congregation to volunteer time serving pastoral leaders by babysitting or helping with yard projects and other home maintenance.
Update your pastor’s office with new paint, décor, or a technology upgrade.
On behalf of the NEO District Office, thank you to pastors and all clergy for their labor and leadership in helping to make Christ-like disciples in NEO and the nations.
NEO Nazarenes Sure Know How to Celebrate Pastor Appreciation Month!
A few Sundays ago at Miami New Life Church, a rather quiet 40ish man stated he wanted to say something during a break in the service immediately before Pastor Casey was going to preach. Jeff had never spoken up like that, and it obviously surprised Pastor Casey. But it was the cue for the congregation to stand with the simple hand lettered construction paper signs with a profound message of pastoral love and appreciation!!
The service began with the second baptismal service within the past month!! Then following worship, the demonstration of pastoral love and appreciation was the climax of a great morning service!
We had a great Fiesta at Kidz Mission Day on October 14th at Tulsa Southwest with Mary Runion. Our team leaders, including David and Carol Stevens, did a great job coordinating this event.
I Want to Celebrate. . .
Melissa King, Chelsea. . . We go to the Farmers Market every week and people are coming to our prayer booth; we’ve had people come to church through this ministry. I also want to thank Claremore Church of the Nazarene in coming alongside us to help pay our insurance and help us get a new projector.
Georgina Lopez, Tulsa Cielos Abiertos. . . We had one person who reconciled with the Lord.
Levi & Becca Jones, Wagoner Cornerstone Community. . . We celebrated Caleb’s baptism this month and two people joining the church. We are also seeing people in our congregation that are being more intentional about reaching out. We had two new visitors that are interested in the church that were brought by one of our members. We also had a visitor last week that our van driver asked to church when the driver saw this person walking on the side of the road. There have been other members in the congregation that are stepping into new leadership roles that they wouldn’t have imagined themselves doing before. God has been doing some great things here.
David Stevens, Vinita. . . Our back-to-school activities were a great success. We also really enjoyed our “Praying for our city” activity, with more plans ahead. We had a van load and drove around our town. We stopped at several places and prayed for the workers and the people. We took pictures in front of the City Hall and the High School. Our van was decorated with signs that said, “Praying for our city. Praying for Oklahoma.” Even though this was originally planned as a kids’ activity, many of our adults went along and really enjoyed it. God is blessing Vinita Nazarene and helping us. We paid our quarterly allocations for Global/District missions and education.
Otoniel Dannemann, Tulsa Fuente de Vida. . . In August we finished the last group of baptisms, and we did 52 baptisms this summer.
Georgina Lopez, Tulsa Cielos Abiertos. . . In August one new family was involved in our church.
Steve Davis, Sapulpa. . . Three people confessed the Lord Jesus Christ as their Savior and three people were added to our church membership this month. We are also blessed by the addition of Quinton Gold and his wife Katie. Quinton has joined our pastoral staff as Pastor to Students.
Casey Hollingsworth, Miami New Life. . . We had 6 people who decided for the first time or made recommitments to follow Jesus! We are having a baptism service soon and anticipate baptizing many new believers! Jesus is working in the people of New Life!
Jim Thornton, Tulsa Hills. . . God continues to manifest His Spirit at THC. We have been praying for a Thickness of His Presence in our gatherings. On a Wednesday night, 3 people testified to God’s Sanctifying grace in their lives. Just this past Sunday, more people than could be counted responded to God’s invitation to a fresh encounter with His Sanctifying Presence in their lives. We also celebrate 2 new local licensed ministers, Carly Karnes and Kasey Stout. We’re praising God for what He has done, is doing, and continuing to do in the days ahead.
Curtis Martin, Mannford Grace Family Worship Center. . . Our congregation is fully involved in completely remodeling our Sanctuary! What a difference it is making! We are growing in the Lord through this experience!
Jason Isaacs, Tulsa Kaleo. . . God is good! Kaleo had a great month of August as we looked at our series “The Harvest is Coming.” My leaders and I have started to have monthly groups that meet in homes as a new way of creating community with the coming harvest such as Kaleo attenders, first time guests, and even people who have never been. These groups have deepened those attenders’ commitment and community here at Kaleo Church. God is good and he is moving at Kaleo Church.
Ronnie Baker, Tulsa Audacity. . . Church work day was a huge success. The first even led by a new leader was unbelievable. Moving new families through our partnership classes has been very exciting.
Jordan Serracino, Davenport. . . We are going to have a few of our kids baptized soon, this is a very exciting thing to be part of.
Brian Loderhose, Owasso Silver Creek. . . We have had 2 new families join our church family in the last month and get immediately plugged in. They are such a great addition and we’re so blessed to have them.
Clemente Montoya, Tulsa Fe y Esperanza. . . Baptism of one of our sisters. She was very excited and happy to take this next step in her spiritual walk with the Lord!
Steve Davis, Sapulpa. . . This month 2 people confessed the Lord Jesus Christ as their savior and 8 people were sanctified.
Melissa King, Chelsea. . . First I would like to thank Claremore Nazarene for helping come along side of us to help us with paying our insurance premium. This has helped us in our finances. They will also be helping us with a new projector. I am excited to announce we will be starting Celebrate Recovery every Thursday starting October 5th. This will be the only recovery program in Chelsea and we are looking forward to being the hands and feet of Christ to our town.
Curtis Martin, Mannford Grace Family Worship Center. . . The remodeling of our sanctuary is nearing completion! Thank you District and locals for your support and help!
Casey Hollingsworth, Miami New Life. . . We had a baptism service where we had the privilege of baptizing 5 teenagers into the Christian faith! We give Jesus all the credit for the fruit that is being produced in His people!
Ronnie Baker, Tulsa Audacity. . . We continue to add new families. One couple found us online after their move from Texas. Many guests have been coming for our current series The Waiting Room. We have been streaming our services and adding sermons to YouTube. We have received new engagement from online and Facebook viewers. We even have some unchurched people thanking us for streaming our services.
David Stevens, Vinita. . . I am thankful to be able to serve in Vinita, and in the Church of the Nazarene. We are focusing on ministering to all age groups, and some of our young adults have been attending very faithfully. Our Senior adult group is doing well with Pastor Jim as the leader. Children’s ministry is doing well with Pastor Carol. Our finances are steady, and all bills and budgets are paid. Most important, different people have shared that they feel love in our services, and they feel the presence of the Lord.
Jim Thornton, Tulsa Hills. . . We baptized 5 people in September and give God the praise for transformed lives!
Austin Troyer, Tahlequah. . . We have had a more consistent attendance from our kids and their families ever since VBS this year. We thank God for this and hope that we take advantage of this opportunity.
Brian Loderhose, Owasso Silver Creek. . . John Carnell filled in this last Sunday while we were at District Ministry Team Retreat. He has his local ministry license from the Southwest District and his family has only recently been attending our church. It’s awesome that they’ve stepped in and gotten so connected so quick!
Yalmi & Norma Izaguirre, Tulsa Regency Iglesia. . . We are praying each Saturday and connecting with our community.
Georgina Lopez, Tulsa Cielos Abiertos. . . One of our member was released from jail and is in the process to have a residence.
Otoniel Dannemann, Tulsa Fuente de Vida. . . This month we had a concert with the bands of our church and a presentation of a puppet artist and we had 24 new people visiting our church.
Nain & Yanira Caceres, Claremore El Buen Pastor. . . God has been good to us all, His love never fails.
Jason Isaacs, Tulsa Kaleo. . . God is good! Kaleo had a great month of September. We ended our month with a potluck and our gym was filled with our people and 3 new families who attended that day. God is good and he is moving at Kaleo Church.
We celebrate baptisms held in recent months in our Hispanic congregations. Pastor Douglas Reyes (Mahanaim) is shown in the photo baptizing souls into the Kingdom at Camp Meeting, and Pastor Otoniel Dannemann reports that Fuente de Vida baptized 52 people this summer!
We thank God for the impact of Kevin and Sherry Harney on the NEO District. At our recent rally, they reminded us of the vision:
Every person waking up each morning praying, “God, if you can use me anyway today, I’m available!”
Every family a beacon of God’s love.
Every church a mission center.
They also challenged us with their probing questions, such as: “If everyone in my church reached out to lost people the way I do, would this be a good thing or a bad thing? What should I begin doing to make sure it would always be a good thing?”
If you can’t make it to the Prayer Conference in Dallas…come join your brothers and sisters in Christ who will be watching live stream at Audacity Church. Come experience the conference in community!
