NEO Team Update

Making Christlike Disciples

I never grow tired of reminding our District Family of our Vision.  Our passion is that every believer will unite together around our common Savior, Lord and hope, so that together we can bless our community, bring people to Jesus and become Christlike Disciples.  And God is helping us!

This year, the focus is on “Becoming Christlike Disciples”.  The primary call on Christians is to follow Jesus, to become like our Rabbi.  Although it is a lifelong task, we have witnessed God’s ability to transform us and make us more and more like Jesus in our attitudes and actions.

I have been challenged by Paul’s words to the Colossians: So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.” (Col. 2:6 – 7) I pray that it will be so in my life and in yours.

Many of our churches are currently observing the season of Lent along with Christians of many denominations. The practices of Lent are designed to help us draw near to God and be shaped by his Holy Spirit. We invite Him to search our hearts and show us anything that makes him sad, so we can repent and be forgiven and changed.

One of the tools that God continues to use to shape us like Jesus in Holy Scripture. Is it your habit to read scripture daily? Curt Cignetti, coach of the Indiana University football team, helped lead one of the biggest transformations of a team in the history of college football. This year, in his second year at Indiana, his team won the National Championship. Cignetti said, “We form habits and then those habits form us.” That is so true of the habit of reading scripture. Every Jesus follower should be immersed in the Word of God in a way that leads to thinking that is shaped by biblical truth and a life that aligns with all God teaches in his Word.

What do you need to change today to form that habit… so that habit can form you?

Discern Nominees

Greetings from the District Advisory Committee!

We have reached the fourth stage of the District Superintendent Election process, “Discern Nominees.” The regional office has compiled a list of all candidates nominated in the previous stage. A resume for each candidate was added (without contacting any candidate at this point). The District Advisory Committee (DAC) is currently reviewing the list and is scheduled to meet on March 2nd to begin the process of discerning candidates. The goal is to arrive at 2-4 interviewees by March 19.

This post is part of an ongoing series in preparation for our District Superintendent Election at the upcoming District Assembly (June 5-6, 2026).

2026 Ladies Day

On January 31, our District Ladies Day Event was a beautiful and meaningful gathering, with 92 women in attendance from across the district. The morning was centered on our Reflect theme, as we intentionally paused to consider God’s goodness in our lives.

With heartfelt worship led by Ragan Schubert and team, and an encouraging message from Gloria McKellips rooted in Lamentations 3:22–24, we were reminded that God’s mercies are new every morning and great is His faithfulness. We reflected on His grace, His steady faithfulness, and responded with gratitude.
A delicious breakfast and sweet fellowship made the morning even more special. Thankful for the Women’s Council—Christy Thornton, Ashlee Baker, Caley Spangenberg, Terri Metcalfe, and Gloria McKellips—who prayerfully pulled it all together. We are also thankful for Regency Park COTN who is always so willing to host and does such a fabulous job of it!  (Christy Thornton – Women’s Ministry Director)
