NEO Team Update 1-31-19

Dear NEO Family,

You probably could use some good news, couldn’t you! I invite you to read this team update for some exciting news about what God is doing in NEO!

The Mustard Seed is at it again!

At our Advance last June, I told you about the curriculum, Raising Highly Capable Kids, which I felt could be a tool for us to impact our communities and build relationships outside the church. Raising Highly Capable Kids is a 13-week curriculum that is based on the Search Institute’s 40 Developmental Assets. Search Institute has undertaken decades of research with more than 5 million children and found there are 40 building blocks every child needs to grow and mature. And the more of these Assets a child has in her life, the more likely she is to engage in healthy behaviors while veering away from those that are unhealthy.

No one in Oklahoma had used the curriculum and my hope was that Nazarene churches could be leaders in taking it into our neighborhoods and schools, especially Title 1 schools. Ellen Crager of Muskogee stepped up to be our District Leader, we qualified for a grant for a year and we planned Vision and Training sessions. The turnout from our district and community leaders has been phenomenal!

The curriculum is already having a tremendous impact in Muskogee. Bridges Out of Poverty is using the material for four classes at this time – two in English and two in Spanish. The Muskogee School District has made it a district initiative and has already had 40 to 50 people trained in using the curriculum. They are planning classes in every school in their District this Spring and hope to have 5 families in each.We hope God can use the curriculum in your church and community. Please let us know if you are interested in training or curriculum (Because of our grant, we have the training and materials available through the NEO District for no charge throughout 2019.)

NEO Ladies Retreat

REFRESH weekend at the well 2019 was a spirit-filled event; tremendous worship, laughter, deep thought for the soul, and fellowship through our time spent with Donna Kyzer-Rice and Marci Marquis. Nearly 200 District Ladies spent the weekend enjoying time with one another. Thank you to our NEO Ladies Council and our host church, Regency Park, who worked tirelessly to make sure all details were covered for a blessed, beautiful and “Divine” weekend together as a district. Don’t forget to “drink plenty of water”! (Quotes from Donna)

Visit our facebook page for more retreat moments.

NYI Winter Retreat
We had 15 churches represented from NEO and SWOK, with about 160 in attendance! The music from Banning and Michael was fantastic, and Nate Cook from Midwest City church brought the Word. We had conversations about The Story in Scripture that threads through the whole length of the Bible, all while talking about some stories that we tend to believe that are in, actuality, lies.

New Pastor Installation

Pastor Brady Thelander was installed as Pastor of Sapulpa Church on January 13. We welcome Brady, Karalie, Beckett, Knox and Brigham to NEO!

Baby Dedication

Pastor Austin and Katie Troyer presented Titus Anthony Troyer to God in an act of public dedication on January 20.

February 11-13

Our mid-quadrennial conference for leaders in the USA/Canada Region will be held February 11-13, 2019, in Kansas City, Missouri. This conference is loaded with resources to help us move deeply into the topics of mission and evangelism. I encourage all NEO pastors to attend M19. See for further details!

Unite My City

February 10

The next Unite My City One Voice event is on Sunday, February 10th at 6:00pm! The event will be hosted at First Baptist in downtown Tulsa with churches from across the Tulsa Metro coming together as one to lift up the name of Jesus.

After the worship night, you are invited to stay for the after-party with dessert and a chance to make new connections with Christians of all races, ages, and denominations. When the church catches the vision of unity through worship, relationships, and service, we believe our city will be transformed!
