NEO Team Update 11-8-18
Words cannot express how much your expressions of love and prayer have meant to me and our family as we deal with the loss of my Dad. Your stories and words of concern have led to many tears of joy and gratitude. My thanksgiving is not only for the wonderful father I have had and his impact on so many, but also for the privilege of sharing this journey with all of you. THANK YOU just hardly seems adequate. We love you and consider it a joy to be on this journey together.
We will celebrate Dad’s home going this SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 10, at 10:30 AM; Tulsa Central Church of the Nazarene. Much of who I am – The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly – is because of the influence of my dad. He taught me to live a life marked by faith in Jesus Christ, hard work, humor and gratitude (and to be a wee bit frugal 😊). I am a blessed man to have had his influence on my life for 63 years.
Dad was an evangelist at heart so he resonated with our emphasis on igniting a passion for Christ’s mission. He was one of the first of our tribe trained in personal evangelism by James Kennedy and trained many others to share their faith using Evangelism Explosion methodology. His preaching was evangelistic; he trained students at Nazarene Bible College to be evangelists; he started a new church while serving at NBC which is now pastored by a young man who grew up in Northeast Oklahoma. He loved His Lord and wanted everyone else to know and love Him, too!
Last Thursday, on the morning of Dad’s death, I saw Angie, Dad and Mom’s neighbor across the hall at Prairie Rose. Angie asked about Mom and Dad. Then she told me, “I signed up to be an Ambassador here at Prairie Rose. I can ‘pass It on’.” Mom and Dad had served in the official role of “Ambassadors” at Prairie Rose. They would help show prospective residents the facility and then try to help those who moved in as they adjusted to their new home. Angie said, “I can pass on what Harold and Shirley did for me. They made sure I was not alone when at meals when I first moved here.”
Long before Dad was an ambassador at Prairie Rose, he understood his identity as an ambassador of Jesus Christ. He wanted to pass on the love and grace he had so freely been given. I hope you will join me in taking the baton given to us by people like my Dad. We can all decide to “pass it on” as ambassadors for Christ. The Apostle Paul says we are Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us, “Be reconciled to God.”
That message of reconciliation was very important to Dad and he took seriously the task of being an ambassador for Christ! May those who come behind me and you find us faithful!

IGNITING A Passion for the Word of God
Want to Learn How to Study the Bible?
It is one thing to read the Bible devotionally; It is quite another to study Scripture. This seven-lesson course, written by Dr. Jim Edlin, is designed specifically for those who want to learn basic principles of studying Scripture. Excellent for individual study or for use in a small group setting, these lessons can help both new believers or mature Christians. Debra from Pennsylvania said, “Thank you so much for this study. I’ve only completed the first session, and it already has me thinking differently.”
Paige from South Carolina completed the course and said, “I am currently teaching the youth Sunday School class, and I don’t take this lightly. The kids will tell me they can read Scripture but that they get lost understanding it. I have a few students who read and study their Bible daily but want to go further. I am taking what I learned from these seven lessons and creating a seven-week lesson plan, so they will be able to learn just how to study and apply Scripture. Again, thank you for these resources.”

A special “thank you” to D’Anne Means their coach and to David Means for driving them to the quiz meet. In their division, Allison Means and Hanna Shaw won 1st and 2nd Place.
Do you have teens who would like to participate in Bible Quizzing? Contact D’Anne Means regarding how to start a group at your church, or bring your youth to participate with the Regency youth on Sunday evenings.
Kids Bible Quizzing
This year our children’s quizzers are studying the book of Acts. My prayer for our students is over the scripture Acts 1:8, I pray that our students will become witnesses not only in their families or with their home church, or even just with their friends, but that they continue to spread God‘s word to the ends of the earth. Our program is growing — we have churches returning to us that we haven’t seen in a while! And we have churches who are joining quizzing for the first time! We encourage anyone and everyone to come and support our quizzer‘s during their quiz meets and see the amazing things that the students are learning!
