NEO Team Update 3-25-21

Dear NEO family,

We are in the season of Lent and a few days from Holy Week. I pray that it will be a time of renewed faith and hope in your life and in the life of the NEO churches.

One of my favorite hymns, “And Can It Be”, tells the story of Good Friday and Easter: Read More

Praying for New Start Churches

Will you join us in praying for God to guide us as we seek to start new churches in Cushing, Grove and Glenpool in the coming church year? We need God to provide the pastors, leadership team, finances and timing.

2021 Calendar Changes

District Assembly & NMI Convention – July 30-31 at Tulsa Central Church!

NYI Extravaganza at SNU – May 27-29

Youth Camp – June 1-5

Kids Camp – July 23-26

Please put this on your church and personal calendars.

NEO Southern Nazarene University Sunday – April 18

Although every plan we make these days is tentative, we are targeting Sunday, April 18 as Southern Nazarene University Sunday on the NEO District. We would ask every church to use one of the inspiring SNU videos (under the “SNU Sunday” dropdown menu at in your morning service and include the University, President Newman, administrators, faculty, staff and students in your prayer. It would be a good time to thank your church for their faithful giving to support the mission of SNU.

Sunday evening, April 18 at 5pm, we are planning a District-wide service at Tulsa Central with University Singers, two groups from the Worship Arts class, and Rev. Dr. Lena Crouso speaking. Dr. Crouso serves as the Chief Diversity Officer in the Office of Intercultural Learning and Engagement, and she is also an ordained Elder in the Church of the Nazarene. Dr. Crouso is the daughter of Asian-Indian immigrants and states that her journey from Hinduism to Christ along with her diverse life path has given her a heart and mind for the empowerment of all people through intercultural understanding and a desire to lead people in spiritual and emotional ways, empowering students to move towards social transformation and freedom.

Did you join us in the 2020 Scripture Memorization Challenge?

You may remember that last June I challenged you to memorize a group of 55 passages. I pledged to give $200 to your local church’s ministry with children or youth or the outreach ministry for every person who memorized these scriptures. The award will be given next Assembly. But the reward will last a lifetime as the Holy Spirit uses these scriptures, planted in our minds, to correct, encourage and train in righteousness. Let me know if you have memorized the assigned scriptures so we can celebrate with you.

Pastor Arturo Amaro has accepted the appointment to be the new pastor of Tulsa Cielos Abiertos and will begin his ministry there this Sunday, March 28. Pastor Arturo and his wife, Rocio, are gifted and experienced leaders. Arturo was the founding pastor of Broken Arrow Iglesia and also started Tulsa Gethsemane Church as a satellite of BA Iglesia. Pastor Deniys Paz will continue serving as pastor of BA Iglesia, and Tulsa Gethsemane will merge with Cielos Abiertos.

Pastor Fabian and Teresa Correa have given dedicated leadership to Cielos Abiertos for over two years while also pastoring Owasso Silver Creek Iglesia which they started in October, 2015. This move will allow the Correas to focus their energy and leadership on the Owasso fellowship.

Skiatook Church Honors Jim & Nancy Reeves

Rev. Jim Reeves and wife Nancy were honored by the Skiatook Church of the Nazarene for their years of service to the Kingdom. Sunday March, 19, they were presented the Distinguished Service Award.

Celebrations of Retirement

Pastor John Hazelton retired for the second time on this 87th Birthday, March 15. Pastor John and his late wife, Carol, provided the leadership spark the Meeker Country Faith Church needed almost 9 years ago when they came out of retirement. After a series of changes to more effectively minister to their community, the church moved to a wonderful facility right on Highway 177 a few years ago. The congregation celebrated God’s provision as they burned the mortgage at the special service honoring Pastor John on March 14. Pastor John has moved to a home on Lake Hudson and will continue to be an impact player for the Kingdom of God. The prospects for the Country Faith Church are bright.

In Recovery

Linda Holland had cervical spinal surgery on her c6-c7 on Tuesday and the surgery went well. Linda has served our District with distinction over the years as a member of the District NMI Council, Kids Camp Director, Advisory Board member and a delegate to General Assembly and General NMI Convention.

Pastor Michael Staton (Wagoner) had back surgery on March 15. Pray for a full recovery and the end of pain for both Michael and Linda.
