Francis Chan: If Everyone Knew How to Read the Bible, It Would Change Church as We Know It

Francis Chan shares about the best gift he’s been given. He received it when he was 15 when a pastor taught him “how to read the Bible for myself.” And now, Chan shares, he’s made major, life-altering decisions with just him and the book.

Tim Mackie of The Bible Project says something similar about the best gift he’s received. A teacher taught him to see how “every book of the Bible fits together as a unified story that leads to and points to Jesus.” This teacher also taught him to read the Bible for himself and learn from it.

Chan says he’s frustrated about all the talk surrounding different speakers and the words they’ve spoken and the lack of talk surrounding what someone has learned for him or herself from the Bible. What would the church look like, Chan asks, “if everyone who showed up on a Sunday morning actually spent the whole week, every day, alone with God?” Chan believes that would change everything.

May God help us ignite a passion for God’s Word in NEO! We have a brand new video series available to check out from the District Resource Center: How To Read the Bible for All Its Worth.

NEO July Reports

I Want to Celebrate. . .

Mark Smith, Drumright. . . We were filled with joy and blessings as we celebrated our first child dedication to the Lord.

Georgina Lopez, Tulsa Cielos Abiertos. . . Earlier this month, our men’s ministry had a vigil. The Holy Spirit moved in the middle of prayer and worship. It was a great night!

Carl Brown, Hominy. . . God’s Grace and Love growing and adding to Heaven’s numbers. Great is our God and worthy of all Praise.

Otoniel Dannemann, Tulsa Fuente de Vida. . . We celebrate because we have baptisms and new visitors are making the decision to follow Jesus.

Bret Metcalfe, Claremore. . . We had a wonderful VBS week with a concluding service on Sunday morning. Several of the families attended the celebration service that was followed by a picnic. We pray the children remember that Jesus is always with them.

Yalmi & Norma Izaguirre, Tulsa Regency Iglesia. . . The Church is working as a team and is healthy.

David Stevens, Vinita. . . Our people are faithful! In spite of vacations and illnesses our Church attendance is consistent. Carol Stevens did a great job of preaching during the month of July. We are getting ready for Back-to-School activities including our Annual Prayer for our City. Along with our new LED Church sign these kinds of activities give our Church more visibility in the community. We are praying for lost souls in our community – that God will lead us to them and lead them to us.

Ronnie Baker, Tulsa Audacity. . . We continue to celebrate summer at Audacity! We added nearly 20 people month over month. After a lower June we bounced back in July. The weather deterred several people but we still had over 80 people at our Summer Pool Party with almost 15 guests. We celebrate another 5th Sunday Outreach where we close our doors and serve out city. This month we served Abba House and Manna House.

Austin Troyer, Tahlequah. . . VBS was wonderful! We had 22 kids and about as many adults for our activities. I have high hopes that the lessons learned at this VBS will have a lasting spiritual impact and that the families involved will grow closer to the Lord and to our church.

Around 25 of our pastors received intensive training in Organic Outreach at PALCON. Huddle groups are being formed under the direction of Organic Outreach Team Leader, Scott Moore, to help churches make Organic Outreach a part of the culture of our churches.
