NEO Team Update 8-29-19
The purpose of NMI is to promote missions in our local churches. We can strive to express the compassion of Jesus Christ to all persons.
While the primary motive of the church is to glorify God, we are also called to actively participate in His mission. One way we can participate in mission is to look at the needs around us and see if we can help.
Our emphasis for August is the 5 Areas of Impact which are Alabaster, Links, Prayer, Educating, and Engaging Children and Youth.
In May and June we experienced rains and flooding across our district. In thinking about that, I asked myself “What can NMI do to help?” David, Elva and I delivered some supplies to Muskogee First Church. The group of workers were with Nazarene Disaster Relief from Texas. NMI bought several cases of water, Gatorade and chips and other snacks for the workers. We enjoyed an evening around the table with them. Then the 29th of June the NMI cooked and served a meal to Celebrate Recovery at Tulsa Southwest. A big thank you to Dean Ashbrook and Dave and Elva Hann for helping with that meal. I so appreciate people that are more than willing to help out.
We are getting ready and looking forward to our Kids Mission Day on October 12 at Tulsa Southwest Church. This is a fun day when the kids can hear missionaries and talk with them. Registration is at 8:30am and we begin at 9:00 when we gather in the sanctuary singing and praising the Lord. We then divide into groups and follow a rotation schedule of crafts, prayer time, games, and snacks. Cynthia Hollingsworth is planning some awesome crafts; prayer time is with our Praying Coordinator, Marylin Rogers; Ryan Holland will have some fun games in the gym; and several council members will be serving a good snack for everyone. After the rotation schedule, we will end our morning back with our missionaries of this year: Bill and Marsha McCoy. Bill currently serves as a doctor at Kudjip Nazarene Hospital in Papua, New Guinea and Marsha serves as office manager. We are looking forward to getting to know more about medical missions. We always take up an offering which goes to our two children that we sponsor through the Child Sponsorship program. We will then dismiss around noon. We look forward to seeing you and your kids at our annual Kids Mission Day!
This year our district will be involved in two different mission trips to the Dominican Republic. Cynthia Hollingsworth, our Work and Witness coordinator, is busy making all the arrangements and plans for these trips. The first one is coming up really soon leaving Tulsa September 24. The regional mission director assures us that participants will be safe. If you have any questions please talk with Cynthia.
We have a regional missions conference coming up October 18-19. It will be at SNU and is open to anyone. There will be some good breakout sessions with some great speakers.
If you have not scheduled a missionary speaker for this year yet, please contact Kay Hilton our deputation coordinator.
Looking forward to a great year in NMI!

Work & Witness Trip Update
We are so excited about our district Work & Witness trips to Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic to build a school/compassionate outreach center! Due to their schedule, we now have two trips:
Sept 24-Oct 1, 2019
June 26-July 3, 2020
We have six participants going Sept 24-Oct 1 (registration closes Aug 31). Please remember to lift us up in prayer: safety while traveling and working, for the work/impact to be multiplied since we are fewer in number, and that we would be an encouragement to the people in the Dominican Republic as they continue with such an enormous project.
The second trip is June 26-July 3 and cost is $1400 (early-bird cost of $1325 if registered by Dec. 10: includes $100 non-refundable deposit). There are 40 spots available, secured with deposit. Cost includes airfare, lodging, food, and on-site transportation. Does NOT include passport cost – apply for passport at least 6 months in advance. We welcome you to join us in this incredible opportunity to minister to the people of the Dominican Republic.
